Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia — the unusual enlargement of male breast tissue caused by hormonal imbalance — affects boys and men at various life stages and can be a significant source of embarrassment and loss of confidence. While the condition sometimes resolves on its own after adolescence, it can persist into adulthood and may also result from excess weight or certain medications. Male breast reduction at London Liposuction Clinic removes the unwanted fat deposits to create a flatter, more defined masculine chest.

Thorough pre-operative assessment rules out underlying conditions including male breast cancer

Who Is a Suitable Candidate?

Any healthy male adult uncomfortable with enlarged breast tissue may be considered for the procedure following a clinical assessment. The surgeon will examine the target area to confirm the diagnosis of gynecomastia and rule out other conditions such as male breast cancer. Patients are ideally at or close to their ideal weight — those with a BMI above 26 are advised to reduce their weight before proceeding. Smokers, heavy drinkers, and those on blood-thinning medications are not suitable candidates without first making lifestyle changes.

Gynecomastia Treatment Options

The entire procedure typically takes up to two hours, depending on the volume of tissue being addressed. Small fat deposits are treated with liposuction — local anaesthesia is administered, and a cannula is inserted to suction out the fat through tiny incisions, leaving little to no scarring. Where excess fat is more substantial, a combined approach involving both liposuction and surgical tissue removal around the areola may be required, along with excision of any loose, sagging skin.

Recovery After Male Breast Reduction

A compression vest is provided post-procedure and should be worn for at least one month to manage swelling and encourage the chest to take on a tighter, more contoured shape. Most patients can return to work within a week following a liposuction-only procedure, though open-surgery cases may require a slightly longer recovery period. The results, once fully healed, are expected to be smooth and natural-looking.
